7/28/17 Brown Bats and Screech Owls: Adults/Families with children over 7 Years 8:30 PM Swan Creek Preserve Register
  Swan Creek is a refuge for these nocturnal creatures that live on the edges of forest, meadows and river. Hike into their habitats for a chance to watch them swoop and dive. Listen in on the bats' conversations using a bat detector. Recommended for adults and families with children ages 7 and older.

  This is class 4 of 4 for the session. Please register for the July 8th class only.

Enjoy the beauty of Wildwood Metropark and the benefits of Yoga. Gain flexibility, strength, balance, and stress management tools while surrounded by the peaceful offerings of the one of the area’s most beautiful preserves. Please bring a yoga mat or towel. All levels welcome. Teacher, Ann Heckler E-RYT (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher), uses her 20 years of teaching experience to create options for all levels of yoga practice.

Program fees cover all four yoga classes in the July session, July 8, 15, 22, and 29.

 
7/29/17 Kayak Rescues: Ages 12+ 12:30 PM Wiregrass Lake Register
  Work with American Canoe Association certified instructors to learn everything you need to know about safety on the water. This program will cover material that will be taught on the water as well as in a classroom setting to feel comfortable on large water bodies.  
7/29/17 Try it! Night Fishing: (Families and Children Ages 5+) 8:30 PM Side Cut Register
  Experience the thrill of a night time fishing adventure! Many species of game fish use the cover of darkness as a cloak to voraciously feed, creating this unique angling opportunity!

Participants will be introduced to effective techniques to target several species. All gear is provided and anglers over 16 must bring a valid Ohio Fishing License.

 
7/30/17 Cedar Point Wildlife Refuge Kayak Adventure: (Ages 16+) 9:00 AM Off-Site Registration Closed
  Join us on this open lake adventure as we paddle Maumee Bay to "Little Cedar Point". Experience some wave action and keep an eye out for the wildlife that calls the coastal wetlands home.

Pack a lunch to take in your boat and plenty of water. All boats and paddling gear provided; wear clothing and shoes to get wet (no cotton). Participants must be 16 or older; all minors must be accompanied by an adult. This is an intermediate difficulty paddle; skill level required: intermediate; endurance required: intermediate.

  Looking for creative way to spend a Sunday in the park with the family? The National Center for Nature Photography is here make it a Sunday in the Park with Art. There will be scavenger hunts, photography tips, games and art activities to get the whole family involved! Start in the gallery spaces to explore the current exhibits, create nature inspired art, join the nature photography walk at 1:00 pm and follow the fun to the Window on Wildlife and park trails to discover what is waiting to be seen around Secor Metropark.  
7/30/17 Historical Tours of the Manor House 12:00 PM Wildwood Preserve No Registration Required
  Enjoy a free guided tour of this over 30,000 square foot, Depression-era home and learn about the region's rich history or walk through the first floor in your own time. After touring the Manor House, save time to walk through the Ellen Biddle Shipman Gardens or walk the trails through the spectacular grounds of Wildwood Preserve.  
7/31/17 Nature Camp Session #3 (Ages 8-12) 9:00 AM Oak Openings Preserve Registration Closed
  An outdoor adventure is waiting for you at the Metroparks. Explore the trails, search for animals and splash into fun. Hands-on activities, games and crafts will have you searching for animals all across the park. Challenge yourself to try canoeing, archery, fishing and stream exploration during fieldtrips. Don't be bored this summer, stay active! Bring a friend or meet one here. Fee includes a t-shirt, field trip transportation, and a snack each day. A packed lunch and reusable water bottle are required.  
7/31/17 Time Travelers Camp: Ages 8-14 9:00 AM Side Cut Registration Closed
  Would you survive early Ohio? Settlers had their own special ways to survive in the dense forests and swamplands. Each day, we will travel to a different time period and learn atlatl throwing skills, what life was like for soldiers in the 1700's, how to cook outdoors like the early settlers, navigate the Ohio canal system and much more. Camps are held rain or shine, with plenty of rainy day options.

Prior to volunteering, all new volunteers are are encouraged to attend this orientation which enables the Volunteer Services staff to meet prospective volunteers, learn more about their interests,review park policies and procedures, and provide an overview of Metropark volunteer opportunities.

  Travel along the banks of the Maumee River and down the canal towpath. A naturalist highlights the scenery, as passengers relax in Metroparks wheelchair accessible, open-air trolley. Maximum 2 wheel chairs per trip. All other participants must be able to climb 3 steps.  
8/1/17 Unleash the Artist in the Garden: Rain Location - Manor House Solarium 5:00 PM Wildwood Preserve Register
  If you think coloring in a coloring book is fun and relaxing, you should try painting surrounded by nature. Join an art educator in the Ellen Biddle Shipman garden to relax and capture nature with a paintbrush. No experience needed! You will even be provided with all painting supplies and even help you put a sketch on the canvas board to make it easy for you to complete your masterpiece! Register all who are attending.

8/2/17 Toddlers Trails (Ages 18 months to 3) 10:00 AM Wildwood Preserve Registration Closed
  This outdoor, multi-sensory nature play and exploration introduces your toddlers to the natural world and promotes its preservation. Parents accompany and assist in their child's experience at the program. Register toddlers only.  
8/2/17 Stay Active Naturally: Walking Group (Ages 55 and Up) 2:00 PM Wildwood Preserve Register
  It's important to stay active at all ages and equally important to spend time in nature. Come move, learn and socialize as we take a gently paced nature walk around Wildwood. Dress accordingly for the weather and any age is welcome in this walking group.  
8/2/17 Calling All Scouts! Senior Girl Scouts , Paddling (Kayaks) 2:00 PM Wiregrass Lake Register
  Grab a paddle and head out to the water for a fun-filled day of paddling. Scouts will explore the background of kayaking, practice techniques, learn how to stay safe on the water (including rescues) and enjoy a paddling nature adventure. All scouts will receive a Metroparks patch for participating. All boats and other paddling gear provided; wear clothing and shoes to get wet (no cotton).

  The Friends of Pearson always welcome fellow fans of the park to help plan events and volunteer activities. These meetings are the best way to learn how to support the popular Oregon Metropark.  
8/3/17 Wake Up With the Birds: Adults 8:00 AM Wildwood Preserve Register
  Make Thursday mornings your bird watching time! Bring your favorite morning beverage and join us in Wildwood's Window on Wildlife for this informal viewing and interpretation of our feathered friends. At 8:30, we may venture out to take a quick look in nearby trees and meadows (optional). No birding experience necessary!

  Be a good steward of a natural resource – your Metroparks! Volunteers join our Land Stewards on a restoration project which may include invasive species removal. Public volunteer days occur most first Saturdays of the month. Please be sure to dress for the weather and sturdy footwear is strongly recommended. Community groups and individuals are welcome.

8/5/17 Wiregrass Takes Flight 10:00 AM Wiregrass Lake No Registration Required
  Flying Tigers Remote Control Model Club will take to the air again this summer over Wiregrass Lake. The planes are outfitted with pontoons to perform take offs and landings on the lake. Try your hand at flying in the Academy of Model Aeronautics Flight Simulator. You can fly and crash all you like until you get the touch of the controls. Maumee Valley Boat Club will be cruising the lake with their remote control boats. This event promises to be a flying and floating adventure. Pack a lunch, chairs and/or a blanket and enjoy the remote control action.

  Calling all pioneers of all ages, the Johlin Black Swamp Cabin is open to enjoy. See how much life has changed in the last 150 years. Save yourself from the sweltering heat, cooking outdoors cannot be beat! Lend a hand while, the lady of the house cooks a meal over an open fire. Join us any time between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm, lend a hand with the cooking or just explore.

8/6/17 Westwinds Takes Flight 10:00 AM Westwinds No Registration Required
  Flying Tigers Remote Control Model Club will take to the air over Westwinds. Have you ever wanted to experience holding the controls of a remote control plane? There will be "ground school training" in the Academy of Model Aeronautics Flight Simulator, where you can fly and crash all you like until you get the feel of the controls. Then you'll have the opportunity to experience flying the actual planes. The Airshow is at 12:30, the pro's will take to the air to thrill the crowd. Don't miss this action packed fun filled day. Pack a lunch, chairs and/or blanket and enjoy the remote control action.  
8/6/17 Chaos Comes to Town: 1851 on the Canal 12:00 PM Providence No Registration Required
  View what life was like on the Miami and Erie Canal during its heyday. Families games and activities are sure to delight. Save some time to stop by the Isaac Ludwig Mill and Heritage Center. The Volunteer Canal boat will have a special 1851 themed runs at 12:30 pm, 2:00pm and 3:30pm. Fee applies to ride the canal boat; tickets can be purchased at the ticket booth the day of while available.
