What does this all mean? January 31st will be our second full moon for the calendar month making it a blue moon. It is also a super moon, meaning that the full moon is at its closest orbit to the Earth making it appear bigger and brighter. These two phenomenons happing at the same time make it a super blue moon. Not only is all this happening but if you are awake in the early hours of January 31st you will also experience the super blue moon eclipse. The partial lunar eclipse will happen before sunrise around 6:48 am, and only last a short time before the moon sets. In the Americas, this is the first blue moon eclipse in 150 years. For our evening hike we will only experience the full blue moon. The next blue moon will be March 31st, 2018. Please remember to dress for the weather.
