  Interested in trying backpacking but don't know where to start? Join Metroparks staff to learn about what to pack and how to pack, than load up a backpack and try a short practice hike to get the feel for hiking with a loaded pack. Backpacks provided, dress for the weather.

  Make Thursday mornings your bird watching time! Bring your favorite morning beverage and join us in Wildwood's Window on Wildlife for this informal viewing and interpretation of our feathered friends. At 8:30, we may venture out to take a quick look in nearby trees and meadows (optional). No birding experience necessary!

  Weekly fun for our youngest park visitors. Preschoolers, toddles and their guardians enjoy story time, a nature walk, and a craft to take home. There is a different theme each session. Dress accordingly for the weather.

  Enjoy a free guided tour of this over 30,000 square foot, Depression-era home and learn about the region's rich history or walk through the first floor in your own time. After touring the Manor House, save time to walk through the Ellen Biddle Shipman Gardens or walk the trails through the spectacular grounds of Wildwood Preserve.

8/24/17 Reduce, Reuse, Recycle to Create (Adults): Adults 5:00 PM Side Cut Register
  Art goes green! Waste, and how we choose to handle it, affects our world's environment‑that's YOUR environment. The waste humans create has to be carefully controlled. Art can be an environmentally sustainable and responsible manner to deal with waste. Spend your Thursday afternoons in the park getting your creative on using waste materials to create something new. Every week a different project can be started and if one does not finish register for the next class to finish. Register all participants.

  Take a brisk walk on park trails to increase your heart rate and get the blood flowing. This is a 50 min walk and covers over 2 miles at a quick walking pace. There will be no walk on federal holidays.

  Its Friday night and the gallery is open late so make it a date. Come experience the beautiful images at the National Center for Nature Photography, light refreshments, and, of course, your dear sweetheart.  
8/25/17 Ladies Night Out:Spa Day: Adults 6:30 PM Oak Openings Preserve Register
  Relax and enjoy a peaceful evening at a spa! Create natural face masks, herbal salves and saunas using ingredients and materials found in nature. Bring your friends and experience the parks in a whole new way. Ingredients and materials are provided. Please wear clothes you don't mind sweating in and getting dirty. Contact class leader with any questions.  
8/26/17 Open Remote Control Boating Weekend 7:00 AM Metroparks of the Toledo Area No Registration Required
  Open RC boating weekend at all parks, electric motors only.

Explore your Metroparks lakes and ponds without getting your feet wet. RC Boating is a wonderful outdoor activity that is enjoyed by operator and spectators alike. For this one weekend Metroparks is providing a one-time opportunity for RC boating and inviting you to bring your electric boat to the Metroparks of your choosing.

Whether you're the RC Boater or the spectator spending a lazy afternoon watching the boats, come on out to the Metroparks and enjoy your day.

  Enjoy a starlight paddle on the water at the beautiful Nona France Quarry pond. All paddleboards and other paddling gear provided; wear clothing and shoes to get wet (no cotton).

  Looking for creative way to spend a Sunday in the park with the family? The National Center for Nature Photography is here make it a Sunday in the Park with Art. There will be scavenger hunt and art activities to get the whole family involved! Start in the gallery spaces to explore the current exhibits, create nature inspired art, join the nature photography walk at 1:00 pm and then follow the fun to the Window on Wildlife and park trails to discover what is waiting to be seen around Secor Metropark.

8/27/17 Canoe Rescues 12:30 PM Wiregrass Lake Register
  Work with American Canoe Association certified instructors to learn everything you need to know about safety on the water. This program will cover material that will be taught on the water as well as in a classroom-type setting. Practice team rescues in this controlled setting to feel comfortable on larger water bodies.

8/29/17 Get Out Alive: Adults 6:30 PM Oak Openings Preserve Register
  What would you do if you got lost in the woods? Hopefully you'll never find yourself in such a situation, but it never hurts to be prepared! Participate in fire building, shelter building and learn some basic strategies and tips for wilderness survival. Program will be held outside. Dress appropriately.  
8/29/17 Twilight Side Cut Explorer 7:00 PM Side Cut Register
  Experience Metroparks in a different light on this evening excursion along the banks of the Maumee River. Relax and enjoy the scenery as we look for birds, deer, raccoons and frogs during an extended open-air trolley ride. Maximum 2 wheel chairs. All other participants must be able to climb 3 steps.

8/30/17 Stay Active Naturally: Walking Group (Ages 55 and Up) 2:00 PM Wildwood Preserve Register
  It's important to stay active at all ages and equally important to spend time in nature. Come move, learn and socialize as we take a gently paced nature walk around Wildwood. Dress accordingly for the weather and any age is welcome in this walking group.  
8/30/17 Calling All Scouts! Cadette Girl Scouts, Trees 6:30 PM Westwinds Waiting List
  Branch out and head outside to rediscover your appreciation for tress. Become a naturalist to find out why trees are so important to people, animals, and to Earth. We will hike along the new Girl Scout Trail for this program. All Scouts will receive a Metroparks patch for participating.

8/31/17 Through the Lock History Paddle: Family Canoe Adventure : (Ages 4+) 6:00 PM Providence Register
  Paddle through the historic Miami-Erie canal and lock and hear stories about the historic ghost town of Providence.

Participants must be 8 or older to paddle, minors must be accompanied by an adult. Register all participants ages 8+. Up to two children ages 5-7 may ride in the middle for free for every two registered participants. Please leave a comment with all ages of all children (for life jacket counts). This is a beginner difficulty paddle; skill level required: beginner; endurance required: beginner.

 
8/31/17 Archery 101: (Ages 16+) 6:30 PM Westwinds Registration Closed
  Transform into an arrow-slinging archer here! Archery 101 has two sessions for the novice. Get the tools to safely navigate the range, become familiar with basic archery equipment & start working on precision and accuracy.

This is session 2 of 2. Please register for first session on August 17. Registration fee includes both sessions. Register only if you can attend both sessions. Only Metroparks equipment may be used. First session is August 17, 2017. Second session is August 31, 2017. Both sessions are from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm.

9/2/17 Stewardship Work Day 9:00 AM Blue Creek Conservation Area Register
  Be a good steward of a natural resource your Metroparks! Volunteers join our Land Stewards on a restoration project which may include invasive species removal. Public volunteer days occur most first Saturdays of the month. Please be sure to dress for the weather and sturdy footwear is strongly recommended. Community groups and individuals are welcome.
