9/10/10 Geocache Adventure for Kids 4:00 PM Wildwood Preserve Registration Closed
  Take an adventure through Wildwood Preserve searching for hidden geocaches. Metroparks naturalists help you decipher environmental clues, but you will need to use your GPS unit for ultimate success. Program is designed for kids, ages 8 to 13, and includes a course teaching the basics of using a GPS. Participants can use their own GPS or borrow one from Metroparks.  
9/11/10 Bird Hike 8:30 AM Farnsworth No Registration Required
  Explore the world of birds on these monthly outings. Program participants develop a keen eye for spotting the wide variety of birds that live or migrate through the region. Bring your binoculars and field guides.  
9/11/10 Maintenance Work Days 9:00 AM Wildwood Preserve Registration Closed
  Join the Metroparks Maintenance Crew in the care and preservation of the Metroparks. Projects include: trail work, gardening, painting, stewardship, landscaping and general clean up projects. Work gloves, a reusable drinking bottle and sturdy shoes or boots are recommended. Groups and individuals are welcome.

9/11/10 Canal Days 12:00 PM Providence No Registration Required
  Celebrate our region’s past by spending a day in the 1800s. Craftspeople and games will be on hand for the whole family to enjoy. Our mules will pull you back to the 1870s, aboard an operating canal boat, and the Isaac Ludwig mill will be in full motion grinding grain and sawing logs using nothing but the power of water. Fees apply to ride the canal boat.

  See one of Metroparks newest properties before it is open for general use and meet our partners, Nature's Nursery and Lucas Soil & Water Conservation District. At 2 p.m., join Metroparks staff for a free Sunday Sampler program.

  Monthly programs presented by the Naturalists Camera Club of Toledo are open to everyone and typically include a guest speaker, photography instruction and light refreshments.  
9/12/10 Sunday Sampler: Fishing at the Quarry Pond 2:00 PM Blue Creek Conservation Area Register
  Bring your own pole and see what's biting at the Blue Creek Quarry Pond. Naturalists will help you identify your catch and discuss the important waterways in your beautiful Metroparks. Fishing is free for Conservation Area, one of Metroparks newest properties.

  No glove, no problem. Come see how baseball was meant to be played when the Black Swamp Frogs take on their neighbors to the north the Wyandotte Stars in an 1860s "base ball match."  
9/14/10 Side Cut Explorer   Side Cut Register
  All Aboard! Cruise along the banks of the Maumee River and down the canal tow-path in Metroparks open air trolley. A naturalist will highlight the scenery, as you relax in the 12 passenger, wheelchair accessible tram. Every Tuesday, June through October. Groups can schedule separate times for a nominal fee.

  Meet the birds who live in the Maumee River and then tour their home. This canoe paddle circles Missionary Island giving participants a good opportunity to view waterfowl in their natural habitat. This is an Autumn Adventure Program.

9/18/10 Civil War Encampment 9:00 AM Wildwood Preserve No Registration Required
  Step back in time, to the period of the American Civil War. Stroll through the encampment and visit with soldiers to experience life during the war and hear from the families who awaited their return. Enjoy historical activities, listen to period music and witness an artillery demonstration followed by a battle re-enactment. Save some time for a visit to the Manor House.

  With the Civil War Encampment as a backdrop, this nature walk promises to be unlike any other. As the men and women of the 19th century begin their day in camp, you will see how the natural world spends their morning. This is an Autumn Adventure Program.

  Meet the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom on this lantern-lit evening tour. Historical re-enactors dressed in period clothing transport you and your family back to the Civil War to give you a chance to see first-hand how our ancestors lived.  
9/19/10 Pancake Breakfast 8:00 AM Wildwood Preserve Register
  Once again CIVIL WAR RE-ENACTORS are coming to Wildwood. Enjoy breakfast outdoors with the uniformed troops and costumed camp followers. The grub is pancakes, sausage, orange juice, coffee or hot chocolate $4.95 adults/$2.50 children under 12. Indoor seating is available. Stay and enjoy the activities of the day. Proceeds used for Metroparks projects.

  Before European Americans tamed the Great Black Swamp, local tribes called the area home. Help us construct a traditional conical wigwam and learn how Native Americans utilized the area.

  Brownies and their adult leaders will explore the Oak Openings region and fulfill 4 requirements to earn this "try-it." Rain or shine, dress for weather.  
9/23/10 In the Park After Dark 8:30 PM Swan Creek Preserve Register
  The Full Sturgeon Moon sheds all the light we need on this special, naturalist-led night hike. Track nocturnal wildlife, listen for owls and gaze at jupiter and the moon through a special Newtonian telescope. No dogs permitted.
