  Come out and enjoy an educational walk at the Toledo Botanical Garden (TBG). This monthly walk will highlight plants throughout the garden and include their seasonal interests-flowers, fruits, bark and more! It will be a great time to check out plants that you may want to consider for your own landscape. (Second Monday of the month, except for June)

  Do early winter sunset times have you lamenting the loss of your after work walk in the park? Enjoy an invigorating evening hike through your parks with a naturalist at a time when the parks are usually closed. Sturdy hiking shoes are recommended and dress for the weather.

  Take a brisk walk on park trails to increase your heart rate and get the blood flowing. This is a 50 min walk and covers over 2 miles at a quick walking pace. There will be no walk on federal holidays.  
3/14/18 Safety! Don't Leave Shore Without It: Paddlers Safety Class 5:30 PM Wildwood Preserve Register
  Prepare for the paddling season by learning about the safety considerations that all paddlers face and how to plan for a successful and safe trip. Topics covered will include equipment, navigation and the effects of wind, water and waves on paddlers. Learn local paddling locations for different skill levels and DIY ideas for safety gear for kayaks and canoes.

  Make Thursday morning your bird watching time! Bring your favorite morning beverage and join us in Wildwood's Window on Wildlife for this informal viewing and interpretation of our feathered friends. At 8:30, we may venture out to take a quick look in nearby trees and meadows (optional). No birding experience necessary.

  Ever wonder what is behind all those closed doors? Or, where did the maids work and sleep? Take this unique opportunity to see all four floors of the Wildwood Manor House and discover more about what life was like when the historic home was called Stranleigh. Small groups will tour typically closed spaces from the boiler room to the attic. Space is limited.  
3/15/18 Calling All Scouts: Wolf Cubs, Finding Your Way 6:00 PM Side Cut Register
  Scouts will be introduced to map reading and using a compass. All Scouts will receive a Metroparks patch at this program.  
3/15/18 Toledo Naturalist Association: Exploring Saipan's Avifauna and Natural History 7:00 PM Wildwood Preserve No Registration Required
  Annie Crary traveled to Saipan as a bird banding biologist for the Institute for Bird Populations and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Division of Fish and Wildlife during the spring and summer of 2009 and fall of 2010 and ran six banding stations in different habitats on the island in order to determine molt sequence and timing of Saipanís resident, nonmigratory landbirds, and to piece together information about breeding seasonality. Saipan is a small island that rests along the Marianas Trench 136 miles north of Guam in the Pacific Ocean. It has 13 species of native nonmigratory landbirds and four nonnative species, as well as numerous seabirds and shorebirds. Join us as we explore the rich natural and human history of a tropical paradise. Swim with colorful reef creatures, meet the birds of Saipan, learn the intricacies of avian molt, and discover new, undocumented molt patterns.

  Exhibits from the nation's premier nature photographers hang along side images by local talent in this gallery. The National center for Nature Photography at Secor Metropark is the only center of its kind in the country. Regular Gallery hours are Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

3/17/18 Ten Mile Hike: (Adults) 10:00 AM Oak Openings Preserve Waiting List
  Attention Trail Challenge hikers and all other hikers! Cross 10 miles off your challenge while you explore the winter beauty of the sand dunes, prairies, forests and oak savannas of the Oak Openings region. Search for the first early signs of the coming spring.

We'll stop for lunch, a fire and warm beverages halfway through the hike. Pack water and a trail lunch. Sturdy hiking shoes/boots are recommended. Dress for the weather.

After touring the Manor House, save time to walk through the Ellen Biddle Shipman Gardens or walk the trails through the spectacular grounds of Wildwood Preserve.

  Hooray! Spring is upon us! Celebrate with a nature walk along the canal towpath to Lock 44. At the lock, kids will enjoy a treasure hunt, searching for gold coins to be exchanged for prizes inside the Heritage Center. Cap off the afternoon with a visit to the Isaac Ludwig Mill for St. Paddy's punch and see how Metropark millers are gearing up for the 2018 grist milling season.

  Suffering from a little cabin fever? Catch mansion fever by searching for objects hidden in plain sight. With over 32,000 square feet of Manor House to scour, this task is harder than it may seem. Spend an hour or the afternoon, seeing the house through a new lens. Fun for all ages!

  Enrich your knowledge of the natural and cultural history of our region through this weekly lecture series featuring an indoor presentation followed by an optional, short naturalist led hike. From resident birds to winter visiting species, today's program will address the life histories and conservation of owls and offer tips on when and where to search for them. Presented by Kim High, Metroparks Naturalist/Historical Interpreter. (Please note that next week's program on March 25th will be held at Farnsworth Roche De Boeuf Shelter.)

  Our staff is going through an all-day archery training. We are in need of beginners to teach! You will get a lot of background knowledge on archery and will gain more than enough experience to help us at programs. NO previous archery experience preferred!

Tie back hair, donít wear scarves, jewelry or anything else that may get in the way of shooting.
