6/3/17 Trail Challenge 10:00 AM Metroparks of the Toledo Area Register
  Help us celebrate National Trail Day by signing up to take the Trail Challenge. Set your goal of 50, 100 or 150 miles and create your plan to accomplish your goal and hike! To participate: register online or mail in your registration form with your entry fee. You will receive a t-shirt, entry into the Trail Challenge FaceBook group and invitations to special trail hikes. Your reward will be a hiking stick with the badge of the miles you completed 50, 100 or 150. The form is for you to track your mileage. You can drop off or mail your completed form to Wildwood Preserve Visitors Center by June 30, 2018. You will then be notified when rewards are available for pick-up.

Metroparks encourages you to set a stretch goal, a GET OUTSIDE YOURSELF kind of goal. For some, that will be accomplishing the 50 miles for others the 100 or 150. Watch for Metroparks Featured Trails. Try a trail in a Metropark you've not previously visited. When registering online enter your Mile Goal into the 'Age of Children' text field.

 
6/28/17 Archery League - Beginner: Equipment Provided (Ages 8+) 5:30 PM Westwinds Registration Closed
  No equipment? No problem! Come test your skills in this unique 3D Archery League at Westwinds Metropark. The 30-target course has special features that will keep everyone coming back for more. Shoot from 2 platforms. a boat, a blind and more!

Metroparks Outdoor Skills Staff will help walk you through your first 3D league. Meetings are every Wednesday at 5:30 pm. The 1st week will consist of instruction on shooting and scoring. No sights or other special equipment will be utilized unless you took a 201 course with Metroparks.

Classes consist of:
Youth (up to 16)
Women Only
Open (Men and Women)

(When registering, please specify which class you will be in the special needs field. All youth participants will require a parent or guardian supervision at all times.)

This is a 6 week league. Please register only for the first program on June 28th.

Save the date! Metroparks will host a celebration and awards party at Westwinds Metroparks, September 19, 2017. 6-8 pm.

 
7/1/17 Stewardship Work Day 9:00 AM Blue Creek Conservation Area Registration Closed
  Be a good steward of a natural resource Ė your Metroparks! Volunteers join our Land Stewards on a restoration project which may include invasive species removal. Public volunteer days occur most first Saturdays of the month. Please be sure to dress for the weather and sturdy footwear is strongly recommended. Community groups and individuals are welcome.

  Enjoy a free guided tour of this over 30,000 square foot, Depression-era home and learn about the region's rich history or walk through the first floor in your own time. After touring the Manor House, save time to walk through the Ellen Biddle Shipman Gardens or walk the trails through the spectacular grounds of Wildwood Preserve.  
7/3/17 Volunteer Training: Wiregrass and Westwinds Park Highlights 1:00 PM Wiregrass Lake Registration Closed
  Park specific natural and cultural history, interpretation and seasonal plant and animal cycles are the focus of this outdoor field study. We begin at Wiregrass and then car caravan to Westwinds Metropark. Recommended for Metroparks Walk Leaders, Roving Interpreters, Wildlife Monitors, Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalists and Volunteer Trail Patrol(VMT).  
7/4/17 Great Black Swamp Frogs vs Woodstock, Ontario Actives: Vintage Baseball Game, 1860's Style 1:00 PM Wildwood Preserve No Registration Required
  The Great Black Swamp Frogs will challenge the Woodstock, Ontario Actives July 4th at Wildwood Preserveís Trailside Field from 1-3 p.m. These vintage baseball clubs play according to 1860ís rules and have met twice a season for 22 years on Canada Day in Woodstock and in Toledo on July 4th. Historically accurate equipment, uniforms and rules recreate baseball in the era before the Civil War. All are welcome to watch & cheer.

  It's important to stay active at all ages and equally important to spend time in nature. Come move, learn and socialize as we take a gently paced nature walk around Wildwood. Dress accordingly for the weather and any age is welcome in this walking group.

  For one evening only the beautiful Blue Creek Nona France Quarry pond will be open to bring your own boat for a peaceful night paddle.

Only hand-powered boats (canoe, kayak, rowboat, or SUP) will be allowed. Life jackets are required during this paddle, and are available to borrow if needed. Participants must be able to unload and transport their boat to the water on their own. Red lights are recommended for the bow and stern of your watercraft; lights will be available to borrow if needed.

  Make Thursday mornings your bird watching time! Bring your favorite morning beverage and join us in Wildwood's Window on Wildlife for this informal viewing and interpretation of our feathered friends. At 8:30, we may venture out to take a quick look in nearby trees and meadows (optional). No birding experience necessary!

  If you think coloring in a coloring book is fun and relaxing, you should try painting surrounded by nature. Join an art educator in the Ellen Biddle Shipman garden to relax and capture nature with a paintbrush. No experience needed! You will even be provided with all painting supplies and even help you put a sketch on the canvas board to make it easy for you to complete your masterpiece! Register all who are attending.

Prior to volunteering, all new volunteers are are encouraged to attend this orientation which enables the Volunteer Services staff to meet prospective volunteers, learn more about their interests,review park policies and procedures, and provide an overview of Metropark volunteer opportunities.

Orientations are held the first Tuesday and Thrusday of most months. [VMT]

  Make it a night out in the parks and meet new friends in this women only bike and hike program. Bike 5-7 miles and hike 2-3 miles.

All styles of bikes are welcome. Please bring a helmet, bike lights and dress appropriately for the weather.

  Metroparks Rangers are pleased to present a Saturday morning of fishing, fun and prizes. Drawings and prizes throughout the day for various contests such as biggest fish, most fish, smallest fish and more. Once fishing is over, enjoy a hot dog and snacks while the results are being tallied. Fishing Derby is for children ages 5 to 15. Metroparks will supply the bait. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and Fishing begins at 9 a.m.

  Reduce stress and increases well-being! Experience a shortened version of a Forest Therapy journey as a certified guide leads you on this short, nonstrenuous walk designed around activities that invite you to connect with nature by using all of your senses and staying in the present moment.   Learn the basics of off-road cycling and gain the skills and confidence required to ride the tougher sections of trail. Topics range from cycling basics and trail fundamentals to technical riding skills. This class is well-suited for riders of all levels.

Presented by Spoke Life Cycles.

Bring your own bike, helmet, and water. Limited mountain bikes will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

  Enjoy the beauty of Wildwood Metropark and the benefits of Yoga. Gain flexibility, strength, balance, and stress management tools while surrounded by the peaceful offerings of the one of the areaís most beautiful preserves. Please bring a yoga mat or towel. All levels welcome. Teacher, Ann Heckler E-RYT (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher), uses her 20 years of teaching experience to create options for all levels of yoga practice.

Program fees cover all four yoga classes in the July session, July 8, 15, 22, and 29. Please register for the July 8th class only.
