  Explore a site outside of the parks with Metropark's interpretive guide. Discover the different habitats found within the forest at Bittersweet Farm, located near Oak Openings Preserve. Bittersweeet Farms is a local agency committed to providing high quality programs for people in the community with autism. Metroparks is proud to offer these nature walks in collaboration with their regular daytime programs. Open to all ages.

  Make Wednesday mornings between Labor Day and Thanksgiving your time to get outside and get moving as you take in the beauty of Fall. An interpreter will share seasonal highlights and lead you on this moderately-paced walk along a 1.5 mile loop trail. Estimated walking time 35-45 minutes.

  This outdoor, multi-sensory nature play and exploration introduces your toddlers up to three years of age to the natural world and promotes its preservation. Parents accompany and assist in their child's experience at the program. Register toddlers only.

  It's important to stay active at all ages and equally important to spend time in nature. Come move, learn and socialize as we take a gently paced nature walk around Wildwood. Dress accordingly for the weather and any age is welcome in this walking group.

  Make Thursday mornings your bird watching time! Bring your favorite morning beverage and join us in Wildwood's Window on Wildlife for this informal viewing and interpretation of our feathered friends. At 8:30, we may venture out to take a quick look in nearby trees and meadows (optional). No birding experience necessary!

  The moon will light the way as we walk in the park after dark. We will discover the wonders of the night at a time when normally park visitors are not allowed in the park. Dress accordingly for the weather and let's get outside!  
10/7/17 Forest Bathing: Experience the Healing Powers of the Forest 9:00 AM Oak Openings Preserve Waiting List
  Reduce stress and increase well-being! Experience a shortened version of a Forest Bathing journey as a certified guide leads you on this short, nonstrenuous walk. Feel the healing qualities of the forest with activities that invite you to connect with nature by using all of your senses. Please dress in layers for this rain or shine event and leave phones and cameras behind. For more information on Forest Bathing visit www.natureandforesttherapy.org.

  Come to the park with your favorite furry friend! We'll take a naturalist led hike at a different park each month. Please remember to bring a leash as all dogs must be on leash at every Metropark. Coming soon in 2017: Middlegrounds will have the first dog park in the Metroparks!

  Weekly fun for our youngest park visitors. Preschoolers, toddlers and their guardians enjoy story time, a nature walk, and a craft to take home. There are different theme each week. Dress accordingly for the weather.

  Art goes green! Waste, and how we choose to handle it, affects our world's environment‑that's YOUR environment. The waste humans create has to be carefully controlled. Art can be an environmentally sustainable and responsible manner to deal with waste. Spend your Thursday afternoons in the park getting your creative on using waste materials to create something new. Every week a different project can be started and if one does not finish register for the next class to finish. Register all attending.

  Travel along the banks of the Maumee River and down the canal towpath. A naturalist highlights the scenery, as passengers relax in Metroparks wheelchair accessible, open-air trolley.
Maximum 2 wheel chairs per trip. All other participants must be able to climb 3 steps.

10/21/17 Toledo Naturalist Association: Wildlife and Natural History of the Mediterranean, with Dr. Johannes Foufopoulos (Univ. of Michigan) 7:00 PM Secor No Registration Required
  The Mediterranean Sea and its coasts claim a central place in the history of human civilization, but they also have a rich and beautiful natural history. Professor Foufopoulos is the author of numerous articles and books about the natural history of this region. Join him for a photographic exploration of the wildlife and other natural history of the Mediterranean.

  This program is cancelled: Experience Metroparks in a different light on this evening excursion along the banks of the Maumee River. Relax and enjoy the scenery as we look for birds, deer, raccoons, and frogs during an extended open air trolley ride.

10/25/17 Project Learning Tree Facilitators Workshop 9:30 AM Oak Openings Preserve Registration Closed
  This two day workshop is intended for those who wish to facilitate training for outdoor educators, teachers, volunteers and other adult learners in the Project Learning Tree environmental education curriculum. Activities will feature our location in the globally rare Oak Openings Region. Registration fee includes refreshments, meals and all PLT curriculum materials and supplies. Note that day two will start at 9 am and end at 3:30 pm. Attendance both days is required. 1 hour of college credit may be available.
