6/3/17 Trail Challenge 10:00 AM Metroparks of the Toledo Area Register
  Help us celebrate National Trail Day by signing up to take the Trail Challenge. Set your goal of 50, 100 or 150 miles and create your plan to accomplish your goal and hike! To participate: register online or mail in your registration form with your entry fee. You will receive a t-shirt, entry into the Trail Challenge FaceBook group and invitations to special trail hikes. Your reward will be a hiking stick with the badge of the miles you completed 50, 100 or 150. The form is for you to track your mileage. You can drop off or mail your completed form to Wildwood Preserve Visitors Center by June 30, 2018. You will then be notified when rewards are available for pick-up.

Metroparks encourages you to set a stretch goal, a GET OUTSIDE YOURSELF kind of goal. For some, that will be accomplishing the 50 miles for others the 100 or 150. Watch for Metroparks Featured Trails. Try a trail in a Metropark you've not previously visited. When registering online enter your Mile Goal into the 'Age of Children' text field.

 
9/30/17 Overnight Backpacking Adventure 10:00 AM Oak Openings Preserve Waiting List
  Escape into nature for an overnight retreat and explore the beautiful Oak Openings Preserve Metropark as you backpack through 15.5 sparsely populated miles of trail. Participants will explore nearly every habitat encompassed within the Oak Openings Preserve while learning valuable backpacking and camping skills. No backpacking experience necessary; this hike is perfect for the beginner backpacker. Recommended age of participants is 16 or older; please call to discuss younger participants. All minors must be accompanied by a guardian. Backpacks, tents, sleeping bags and pads, and stove and cook sets are available to borrow. Meals not included. A mandatory pre-trip meeting will be held on the evening of Monday September 25, 2017 from 6:30-8:00 pm at Oak Openings Lodge, to check and fit gear, talk about the trip, and answer any questions. Co-sponsored by Mountain Mentors.

  Enjoy a free guided tour of this over 30,000 square foot, Depression-era home and learn about the region's rich history or walk through the first floor in your own time. After touring the Manor House, save time to walk through the Ellen Biddle Shipman Gardens or walk the trails through the spectacular grounds of Wildwood Preserve.  
10/2/17 Bittersweet Farms Nature Walk: All Ages 10:00 AM Off-Site Registration Closed
  Explore a site outside of the parks with Metropark's interpretive guide. Discover the different habitats found within the forest at Bittersweet Farm, located near Oak Openings Preserve. Bittersweeet Farms is a local agency committed to providing high quality programs for people in the community with autism. Metroparks is proud to offer these nature walks in collaboration with their regular daytime programs. Open to all ages.

  Take a brisk walk on park trails to increase your heart rate and get the blood flowing. This is a 50 min walk and covers over 2 miles at a quick walking pace. There will be no walk on federal holidays.

Prior to volunteering, all new volunteers are are encouraged to attend this orientation which enables the Volunteer Services staff to meet prospective volunteers, learn more about their interests,review park policies and procedures, and provide an overview of Metropark volunteer opportunities.

10/3/17 Calling All Scouts!: Webelos, Cast Iron/Castaway Combo 5:00 PM Oak Openings Preserve Waiting List
  You don't need to be shipwrecked on a desert island to appreciate and use the skills gained in this activity. Finding and creating food, water, shelter and fire in a survival situation with just basic equipment will have Scouts prepared for a worst case scenario. All Scouts will receive a Metroparks patch for participating.

  Make Wednesday mornings between Labor Day and Thanksgiving your time to get outside and get moving as you take in the beauty of Fall. An interpreter will share seasonal highlights and lead you on this moderately-paced walk along a 1.5 mile loop trail. Estimated walking time 35-45 minutes.

  This outdoor, multi-sensory nature play and exploration introduces your toddlers up to three years of age to the natural world and promotes its preservation. Parents accompany and assist in their child's experience at the program. Register toddlers only.

  Make Thursday mornings your bird watching time! Bring your favorite morning beverage and join us in Wildwood's Window on Wildlife for this informal viewing and interpretation of our feathered friends. At 8:30, we may venture out to take a quick look in nearby trees and meadows (optional). No birding experience necessary!

  Be a good steward of a natural resource – your Metroparks! Volunteers join our Land Stewards on a restoration project which may include invasive species removal. Public volunteer days occur most first Saturdays of the month. Please be sure to dress for the weather and sturdy footwear is strongly recommended. Community groups and individuals are welcome.
