4/30/17 Try It Free! Boot Camp Fitness: (Ages 16+) 1:00 PM Middlegrounds Register
  Try this class for free to see if you want to sign up for the series.

This Boot Camp will be a total body workout. You will use your body weight to increase muscle and improve your conditioning. It will be done in station format and will take advantage of the Middlegrounds Metropark sites. All abilities welcome. Wear proper footwear and bring water. Exercise mat optional.

 
4/30/17 Cycle Circle: Overnight Bike Trip, Pre-Trip Meeting 7:00 PM Secor Register
  This is a pre-trip meeting for the Cycle Circle: Overnight Bike Trip, 40 miles program. We will cover everything you need to know from trip itinerary, gear needs, and food recommendations to calming any beginner nerves and getting excited for the trip.

This meeting is required for anyone attending the overnight trip. It is highly recommended that you already have your things packed and bring them to this meeting. This way we can make sure you have everything you need as well as make some recommendations to leave some gear behind.

  Ladies! Gather your friends for a fun morning of dancing that you will never forget. Learn many on and off body hula hoop moves and how to tie them together to create your own Hoop Dance routine. You will also get a killer cardio workout while toning your core. No experience needed. Professional, adult hula hoops provided. Wear comfortable clothing and bring water.

  What does a Scout need to consider in planning a successful hike for himself and his den? Scouts will create a hike plan for one of our beautiful Metroparks, learn about hazardous plants and animals, practice leave no trace principles, and complete a service project.

5/6/17 Cycle Circle: Overnight Bike Trip, 40 miles 1:30 PM Secor Register
  Ever dream of going on a bike trip but not sure how or where to start? Here is your opportunity to camp out and explore the different Metroparks in a whole new way on this overnight bike trip.

The bike trip will begin at Secor Metropark in the National Center for Nature Photography parking lot, travel a total of 38.5 miles and end Sunday, May 7 at the same parking lot just in time for lunch. The trip will consist of 19 miles the first day and 20 miles the second day. All cyclist and camping levels are welcome to this beginner's cycling trip program.

One tent spot at a group campsite, certain bike gear (courtesy of Toledo Mountain Mentors), certain camping gear and a guide fee will be included in the registration fee. Food is not included.

The ride will include a stop at the new single track trail located at the Springbrook parking lot in Oak Openings.

*Please note we require all participants to attend the pre-trip information session on Sunday, April 30 from 7-8:30p.m. at the National Center for Nature Photography in Secor Metropark.

 
5/6/17 Archery 101: Ages 8-15 3:00 PM Westwinds Registration Closed
  Session 2 of 2. Please register for 4/29 program only.

Transform into an arrow-slinging archer in two sessions. Get the tools to safely navigate the range, become familiar with basic archery equipment & start working on precision and accuracy.

Registration fee includes both sessions. Register only if you can attend both. Only Metroparks equipment may be used. First session is Saturday April 29, 2017. Second session is Saturday May 6, 2017. Both session's are from 3:00pm till 4:30pm.

All abilities are welcome to join us in a fun, challenging, outdoor workout.

Participants should make sure they have proper footwear and a water bottle. An exercise mat is optional.

Program fees include 4 classes on May 7, 14, 21, and 28. Please register for the first class only on May 7.

  What would you do if you got lost in the woods? Hopefully you'll never find yourself in such a situation, but it never hurts to be prepared! Participate in fire building, shelter building, and learn some basic strategies and tips for wilderness survival. Program will be held outside. Dress appropriately.  
5/10/17 Try it! Bouldering: (Ages 9 -17) 6:30 PM Blue Creek Conservation Area Register
  Youth ages 9-17 years boulder through time to get a grip on what 400 million year old fossils look like! Basic bouldering styles and safety will be introduced followed by an up close and personal lesson about the life forms that created the limestone wall you traverse. Wear comfortable clothes and hard soled shoes and dress for the weather.  
5/11/17 Campfire Cooking: Trail Dinners (All Ages) 5:30 PM Blue Creek Conservation Area Register
  Fill up on hearty recipes for your next camping adventure. Whip up a delicious dinner while learning the basics of cooking over a fire. Recipes include campfire pizza and donuts. Bring a reusable plate, utensils and cup, and dress for the weather.

5/13/17 15 Mile, Maumee River Eco-Tour: Kayak Adventure (Adults) 9:00 AM Providence Registration Closed
  Follow the course of the mighty Maumee from Providence Metropark downriver all the way to Side Cut Metropark. Experience 15 river miles of incredible scenery and wildlife as you paddle with a naturalist guide and kayak instructor. Then hop on the Metroparks mini bus to shuttle back to your starting location.

All boats and paddling gear provided; wear clothing and shoes to get wet. Difficulty: intermediate; skill required: intermediate; endurance required: intermediate.

 
5/13/17 Calling All Scouts! Junior Girl Scouts, Playing the Past 10:00 AM Providence Register
  Who are you? Who, Who! Playing the Past will allow Girl Scouts’ imaginations soar. Games, activities and living history will be part of earning this badge on the Miami and Erie Canal. Come early or stay after and buy tickets for the the canal boat ride.  
5/13/17 Mountain Biking 101, Bike Fit and Body Position: (Adults Only) Presented by Spoke Life Cycles 10:00 AM Oak Openings Preserve Register
  Learn the basics of off-road cycling and gain the skills and confidence required to ride the tougher sections of trail. Topics range from cycling basics and trail fundamentals to technical riding skills. This class is well-suited for riders of all levels.

Presented by Spoke Life Cycles.

Bring your own bike, helmet, and water. Limited mountain bikes will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

5/14/17 Try it! Canoeing: Family Adventure, (Ages 4+) 2:00 PM Oak Openings Preserve Register
  Give these one-hour basic programs a try to see if you want to sign up for a class or eco-tour!

Boats and gear provided. Participants must be 8 or older to paddle, minors must be accompanied by an adult. Register all participants ages 8+. Up to two children ages 4-7 may ride in the middle for free for every two registered participants. Please leave a comment with the ages of all children (for life jacket counts).

5/16/17 Introduction to Group Cycling: Presented by Toledo Area Bicyclists (Adults) 6:30 PM Secor Register
  In this four-week clinic, Toledo Area Bicyclists (TAB) and Metroparks team up to introduce intermediate cyclists to the basics of group cycling—a fun, safe, social way to ride! Each session features 10-15 minutes of new instruction followed by a 16 -20 mile practice ride that is small chain ring, no drop, and at an average 14-16 mph speed. Sessions culminate with group discussions of the rides. If you are an intermediate rider new to group cycling or looking to brush up on group riding skills, this clinic is for you.

Road bikes are highly recommended, helmets are mandatory. This is a 4 week session that meets May 16, 23, 30 and June 6. Please register for the first session on May 16.
